The successful applicant must be self-motivated, probably with extensive relevant industrial experience in the product or small device design field e.g. rigid plastic packaging, medical, etc . They will possess the ability to provide project leadership for complex, multi-functional initiatives and be able to offer an in-depth understanding of rapid mould building, rapid prototyping techniques and a proven track record of high calibre injection mould tool design. A robust appreciation of the use of CAE tools and techniques and their role within the design process is highly desirable. Knowledge of processing of thermoplastics polyolefins and extrusion blow mould design would be a distinct advantage. The role will be key to maintaining professional design excellence in this field for all global projects. Significant knowledge and relevant experience of most major Mould Design techniques and lead global practitioners is essential. Likewise, awareness of emerging, relevant technologies, their potential would be beneficial. A proven problem solver, and working to fixed deadlines, the role holder will be required to generate creative and innovative solutions to overcome design issues. All project work will need to be undertaken in a meticulous and methodical manner. The role holder will be required to work enthusiastically with diverse project teams and promote a continuous improvement theme. Often work will require working confidentially with technical partners and academia. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provide the necessary expertise to allow fast turnaround designs to support the development of effective prototype and pilot tooling for injection Moulds - Use manufacturing design expertise to allow component design partners to deliver innovative, robust and efficient plastic packaging components. - To lead technical evaluations of potentially beneficial emerging technologies in the area of plastic component manufacture. - To investigate and establish best practice guidelines and design principles for development of key component and mould design features. - To maintain effective technical dialogue between all parties involved in the design process on issues relating to mould design and component manufacture. - To provide trouble-shooting expertise on technical issues relating to mould design and component manufacture. - To prioritise own workload in line with business needs yet be flexible to accommodate rapid changes to these priorities should the need arise.
